Ivan Ponting

Ivan Ponting has been a journalist for 40 years, working as a freelance for the last 20 and contributing obituaries to The Independent since 1991.

He has penned some 30 books on football, including volumes with Gary Pallister, Wilf McGuinness, Bill Foulkes, John Doherty and Roger Hunt, and September 2009 heralded the release of his work on the life of Sir Bobby Charlton.

His credits also include The FA Cup Final - A Post-War History; Red And Raw, an examination of the rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool; The Boot Room - An Anfield Legend; The Book of Football Obituaries; and the Player By Player series, encompassing Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton.

In addition he has worked on a regular basis for a variety of Manchester United publications.

Occasionally he has detoured into the summer game, collaborating with David Foot to produce Sixty Summers - Somerset Cricket Since The War, which won the National Sporting Club’s Cricket Book of the Year award in 2007.
