Stuart Barnes joins Sportswoman of the Year, Zara Phillips, at the 2006 SJA Sports Awards at The Brewery where he earlier presented the J.L.Manning trophy to racehorse trainer, Martin Pipe, for his outstanding contribution to sport.

Sam Wallace starts work with Peter Crouch on one of the leading football autobiographies planned for 2007.

Kraken's Manchester United Opus - written by DWM writers, Jim White, James Lawton, Jonathan Northcroft, Patrick Barclay and Hugh McIlvanney, is unveiled at Old Trafford (below right) by Sir Bobby Charlton and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and subsequently meets with huge international acclaim.

Elena Baltacha successfully returns from an enforced lay-off for Scotland against England in the annual Aberdeen Cup tennis tournament (right), winning both her singles and doubles matches.

Mihir Bose and Sue Mott host all-day Regional Summits on the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games at Knebworth House and the University of Essex respectively.

Patrick Barclay, provides voice-over for Sky’s six-part series on the World Cup, with world-wide distribution, and also features in 'World Cup Heaven and Hell', ITV's special five-programme build-up to the tournament.

 

Giles Long (multi gold-medal winning paralympian) joins Sue Mott for an after-dinner interview to entertain Lloyds representatives in London.

 

Tom Watt hosts the Final Salute celebrations on behalf of Arsenal on an emotional last day at Highbury, having previewed the occasion in a feature for the Express in the morning. Later in the month he hosts a box for sponsors, Wickes, at the play-off finals in Cardiff.

Tom Watt becomes a regular weekly columnist for the newly-launched Sportsman newspaper and, before it is re-positioned - six months later as a racing paper - goes on to interview some of the biggest names in football.

David Conn hosts a major Institute of Directors conference in Manchester.

David Welch is awarded the Doug Gardner Trophy for his contribution to sports journalism and for his role in persuading the Government to support the London 2012 Olympic bid in 2002.
